Mike Eerdhuijzen's transfer to Birmingham City has fallen through, reports The Telegraph. The central defender of Sparta seemed well on his way to making the transfer to England, but both parties failed to reach an agreement in the negotiations. As a result, the Rotterdammers are missing out on an amount of 2.3 million euros.

Eerdhuijzen was an undisputed regular for Sparta last season, where the 23-year-old Volendammer is currently contracted until mid-2026. Birmingham was impressed by the man-marker and had a four-year contract ready for Eerdhuijzen.

Sparta would like to see a deal between Eerdhuijzen and Birmingham quickly, so that the club could close the 2023/24 financial year with good financial figures. The transfer of Eerdhuijzen would earn the Kasteelclub no less than 2.3 million euros.

Eerdhuijzen was in advanced negotiations with the English club, but problems arose when finalizing the individual terms, when the verbal agreements were not honored when drawing up the contract. This is according to sources in England.

Birmingham managed just 50 points from 46 games last season and that was not enough to secure their place in the Championship. The Blues want to return to the second English tier as soon as possible, supported by a wealthy owner, and are looking for several reinforcements.

Sparta previously saw centre-back Bart Vriends leave for Adelaide United, but also strengthened itself with Spanish centre-back Teo Quintero, who was acquired from KSK Deinze.

Also, a new centre-back was brought in with Mike Kleijn, who came over from Feyenoord. In addition, Sparta also strengthened itself with Julian Baas, Mohamed Nassoh and Boyd Reith. In addition, Jafar Bynoe returned after an adventure at Bologna.
