Latest update:

Mats Wieffer's entourage is in talks with Brighton & Hove Albion, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday morning. The 24-year-old midfielder of Feyenoord has been on the wish list of the number eleven of the Premier League for a long time. Wieffer is still contracted in Rotterdam-Zuid until mid-2027.

According to Romano, Fabian Hürzeler, the newly appointed 31-year-old Brighton coach, is keen on Wieffer's arrival. The Seagulls want to convince the midfielder of a transfer to England first, and then look for a breakthrough in the negotiations with Feyenoord. Wieffer was present on Monday when the players of the Stadium club had to report for the first time at training complex 1908.

AC Milan has also been interested in Wieffer for some time, although in Rossoneri several players in mind. Romano does not mention any amounts in his report. Transfer market estimates Wieffer's current market value at around 30 million euros, although Feyenoord could well be higher up the tree due to his long-term contract.

Feyenoord can at least cash in on Wieffer, who was acquired from Excelsior for just 575,000 euros in the summer of 2022. Kralingers will closely follow the developments surrounding Wieffer, as they are entitled to at least 15 percent of the net profit in the event of an outgoing transfer.

Wieffer had to get used to the level in his first six months after his transfer to Feyenoord, but played in Arne Slot's starting eleven halfway through the 2022/23 season. With the Rotterdammers he managed to win a national title for the first time in his career in May 2023.

Wieffer has now been an international for the Dutch national team nine times. On behalf of Feyenoord, the counter stands at 79 official appearances, in which he was good for 9 goals and 11 assists. In the past season, Wieffer was perhaps the absolute strongman in an excellently performing Feyenoord.
