Valentijn Driessen is positive about the performance of the Dutch national team. In a video item of The Telegraph the journalist makes it clear that no player failed in the won match against Romania (0-3). Driessen also has special words for Joey Veerman.

“I didn’t think anyone went through the lower limit today,” Driessen laughed after the victory over the Romanians. “Virgil van Dijk did make a nasty mistake just before half-time, which could have allowed Romania to make it 1-1. But there were no failing grades.”

“In the beginning it was a bit difficult and dangerous. We played the long ball, but up front we had no height or players who could hold the ball. Memphis Depay didn't do it today, but maybe next game.”

“Furthermore, what Cody Gakpo does is very special. He was the scorer of the first goal and he was involved in the second goal. He shows it on this stage and he has no stage fright. He showed that at the World Cup in Qatar. Maybe he can grow into an Arjen Robben from the left,” says Driessen.

After Veerman's disappointing performance against Austria, Driessen predicted that the midfielder would no longer play for the Dutch national team, but now the journalist is happy that Veerman was allowed to play minutes again against Romania.

“Veerman would have taken the chance he got at PSV, but the leaden weight of the the Dutch shirt caused the ball to go wide,” laughs Driessen, who then looks straight into the camera to address Veerman.

“I'm glad you're back in the Dutch national team and have worn the shirt again, Joey. I'm a real fan of the player Joey Veerman, but I think he plays too blandly for Oranje. And I don't see the same player I see at PSV”, said Driessen.
