The Dutch national team won 0-3 against Romania in the round of 16 on Tuesday evening. Cody Gakpo was once again the star of the Dutch team and Donyell Malen added strength to his substitution with two beautiful goals. As a result, the Dutch team will be in the quarter finals of the European Championship on Saturday evening. Football zone rates the basic players of Oranje with a grade.

Bart Verbruggen: 6.5

In the opening minutes in Munich, Bart Verbruggen had to be alert and sharp. The Romanian storm gradually died down and the goalkeeper was mainly a spectator for the remainder of the first half. In the final minutes before the half-time whistle, Ianis Hagi and his associates appeared in front of him again, without it resulting in the equalizer. After the break, this happened again, but again without disastrous consequences. Verbruggen kept his goal clean for the second time in this European Championship.

Denzel Dumfries: 7.5

Denzel Dumfries showed his attacking intentions and provided the first corner kick for the Dutch team after fifteen minutes of play. After half an hour of play, when he again sought the back line, a Romanian leg prevented Depay from scoring from his cross at the far post. Dumfries fought his way out on the right flank in the old-fashioned way and played a major role in the quarter-final place for the Dutch team in Germany.

The reinstated Denzel Dumfries was tireless on the right.

Stefan de Vrij: 7

Stefan de Vrij, who was again chosen by Koeman, came very close to making it 0-2 after 26 minutes. Unfortunately for him and the Dutch team, his header from close range ended up in the side netting. De Vrij was reliable and solid in the heart of the Dutch defence, with Van Dijk as his partner, in addition to his contribution to corner kicks. Romania was increasingly unable to do anything and the fact that the Dutch team kept the score at 0 will do De Vrij good.

Virgil van Dijk: 6.5

Virgil van Dijk, who has recently been criticised by several analysts, made a reasonably reliable impression before half-time, although there were flashes of nonchalance in the final phase. Van Dijk recovered by repelling the mini-offensive of Edward Iordanescu's team. The captain was unlucky when his header from a corner just missed the target. Van Dijk and his teammates can look forward to the quarter-finals as a reward.

Nathan Ake: 7

Nathan Aké made a good cut from the left after seven minutes to nip an attack from Romania in the bud. After the 0-1 for the Netherlands, the left back once again prevented the Romanians from becoming dangerous. Aké has now become a regular on the left side of the Dutch defence and will normally play as an international in the coming years. He was once again replaced by Micky van de Ven in the final phase.

Jerdy Schouten: 8.5

The PSV midfielder quickly became involved in the Netherlands' build-up in the opening minutes at the Allianz Arena. Jerdy Schouten managed to reach Simons with a well-considered pass, after which the ball ended up with the accurate Gakpo. As the first half progressed, Schouten also appeared more often around the opponent's sixteen. The statistics showed that all of his 21 passes arrived before half-time. With more than twenty minutes left on the clock, the PSV player was replaced by club mate Joey Veerman

Xavi Simons: 6.5

Xavi Simons came on early against Austria and had a starting place against the Romanians. He provided the first danger for the Dutch with a not too hard long-range shot after six minutes. After a quarter of an hour, Simons signed for the assist to Gakpo, who cut in from the left and shot into the near corner. He also did not hesitate to bring the ball behind his standing leg in front of the goal on the back line. Shortly before half-time, Simons had the 0-2 on his shoe, but his ball control let him down. The star player of RB Leipzig was somewhat more anonymous in the second half.

Tijjani Reijnders: 7

Tijjani Reijnders showed himself to be a skilled ball and pass player in the first half of the eighth final match in southern Germany. The midfielder came into scoring position in the final phase of the first half, but waited too long to take a shot, causing the chance of a 0-2 score to go up in smoke. The statistics showed that Reijnders made 29 passes in the first half and did not lose the ball once, which was a great performance. The controller thundered into the sixteen in the 50th minute, but was stopped at the last minute.

Steven Bergwijn: 6.5

Steven Bergwijn was surprisingly given a starting spot by Koeman, who kept Donyell Malen on the bench. The Ajax attacker, like his teammates, had a poor opening phase, but gradually recovered. Bergwijn regularly cut in from the right, allowing Dumfries to advance on the flank. Pierre van Hooijdonk judged halfway through the NOS that Bergwijn operated well as a right winger. The Ajax player was injured shortly before half-time and was replaced by Donyell Malen after the break.

Steven Bergwijn was suddenly allowed to show what he could do on the right by Koeman, although he only lasted 45 minutes.

Memphis Depay: 6.5

Memphis Depay made sure that Oranje became dangerous once in the messy opening phase, but when he shot in a promising position, the attacker was offside. His corner kicks were significantly less, as was the criticism of several Oranje fans on X and as was also evident from the statistics. Nine out of ten corners came from Memphis' foot, but not once did that result in danger. After the break he did manage to serve Van Dijk once, but that did not result in a goal.

Cody Gakpo: 9

Cody Gakpo stood up after almost twenty minutes for the Dutch team, who had a difficult opening phase. The winger rammed the ball into the left corner, to the great joy of his fellow internationals and the Dutch legion in the stands. Gakpo seemed a little more anonymous in the opening phase of the second half in the Allianz Arena, although he came close to doubling the lead in the 59th minute. A few minutes later he rammed the ball into the roof of the goal, but that turned out to be in an offside position. Shortly before the end, Gakpo had a great move in store on the back line, from which Malen scored the liberating 0-2.

Cody Gakpo scored for the third time at EURO 2024.

Donyell Malen: 8

Donyell Malen unfortunately shot into his own goal against Austria. He recovered, but had to sit on the bench against the Romanians. Bergwijn was preferred, although Malen had to appear after the break due to a minor injury to his competitor. Malen seemed to be on his way to 0-2 after an hour, but he did not get enough out of a big chance. The Borussia Dortmund attacker could have made a few better choices in the final phase, but he made up for that by shooting in the liberating 0-2 and 0-3.
