Emotions ran high on Monday night after Belgium were eliminated by France (1-0) at the European Championship. Captain Kevin De Bruyne called journalist Tancredi Palmeri 'stupid' as he walked away, after the Italian had asked a question about the Belgian 'Golden Generation'.

After the defeat against France, De Bruyne was asked if it hurt that the 'Golden Generation' of the Red Devils had not won anything. The Manchester City midfielder was clearly not looking forward to that. “What is a Golden Generation?”

Palmeri responded hastily. “Yours.” That answer didn’t sit well with De Bruyne. “And you’re saying that England, France, Germany and Spain didn’t have a Golden Generation in recent years?”

As he walked away, De Bruyne snapped in English: “Stupid!” That word really rubbed Palmeri the wrong way. “Haha Kevin De Bruyne just called me stupid. Here’s a message for you!”

“The Golden Generation you mentioned, England, France, Germany and Spain, they all reached a final. You are a typical footballer who only wants to be asked how good you are. Spoiled brat,” said Palmeri.

Milanese journalist Palmeri works for various media outlets. His bio on X states that he works for Sportitalia, CNN and Al Jazeera, among others. In the past, Palmeri was active for the prestigious La Gazzetta dello Sport and beIN Sports.

De Bruyne left opposite Sporza have not yet made a decision about continuing his international career. “It is too early to decide whether I will continue with the national team. It has been a busy, special season for me. I have to let my body rest now. We will think about everything and a decision will follow after the summer,” said the 33-year-old star player.
