Jeroen Grueter is again receiving a lot of criticism for his match report during the European Championship. The NOS commentator made two remarkable factual errors in the early stages of the France – Belgium match on Monday evening.

At the start of the match, Grueter told the audience that Jules Koundé, the right back of France, plays in central defence for his club FC Barcelona. However, Koundé played more often as a right wing defender for the Catalans last season.

Later in the game, Grueter made an incorrect claim about Yannick Carrasco, who is operating on the right wing for Belgium against France. Carrasco failed to get the ball to a teammate with a cross in the 28th minute.

“Carrasco has the time to pick a teammate, but if he has to do that with his right leg, it automatically becomes less accurate.” Carrasco, who currently plays for Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia, is indeed right-footed.

Grueter also made a blunder in Germany – Denmark

Grueter has been the subject of fierce criticism for days. Last Saturday, he was a commentator for the Germany-Denmark match (2-0). At the time, the reporter said that suspended defensive midfielder Morten Hjulmand is the son of national coach Kasper Hjulmand, but the two are not related.
