Memphis Depay was one of the big stars for the Dutch team during the 4-0 win over Iceland on Monday evening. The thirty-year-old striker also wore a sweatband during the last friendly match of the Dutch national team. In an interview afterwards, Memphis explains why he chose to wear a sweatband.

“There is still one thing left undiscussed. You keep people busy again. You know what I'm talking about, right?” he asks NOSreporter Jeroen Stekelenburg.

“About my sweatband,” Memphis answers. “After last Thursday's game against Canada, I walked through the mixed zonethen I didn't get a question about it.”

“Shall I tell you why I am doing that now?” Stekelenburg interrupts. “Because if you want to put on a sweatband, that's fine with me. I actually didn't think it was a theme at all. For me it was more about how the national coach reacted to it at the press conference after the match. He was a bit surprised and had a conversation with you about it the next day. Koeman did not want to say what such a sweatband is for.”

Who cares?“, Memphis asks with a broad smile, after which Stekelenburg still wants to know the reason why the Dutch international wore a sweatband during the last two friendly matches.

“It does help with sweat, that's why it's called a sweatband. Besides, it looks nice on me. My girlfriend thinks it looks nice on me, great. It's a new look, who cares? I feel good about it,” said Memphis.

The attacker also seems to be playing with a sweatband at the European Championships. “We will see which color I will choose in the next match,” he concludes with a laugh.
