Pep Guardiola has no plans to ever return to FC Barcelona as a coach. The current coach of Manchester City answered a number of questions at a golf tournament on Monday and was asked in detail about his former employer.

Next season, Hansi Flick will be at the helm of the Catalan superpower. The German is the successor to Xavi, who was recently dismissed. The reason for the dismissal of the former midfielder was said to be statements about the club's financial situation at a recent press conference.

As a trainer, Xavi was regularly compared to Guardiola. “What happened to Xavi is not my fault,” the Manchester City coach answered a question about his former pupil. “I didn't make the comparisons.”

Would Guardiola himself ever want to front the group at the Spotify Camp Nou? “No, that's a door that's closed.” The selector of the Citizens calls being a coach at Barcelona 'one of the most difficult tasks there is'.

“I wish Hansi Flick the best. Hopefully he will get the time. He will have to adapt his playing style to the players he has at his disposal.”

Future Guardiola

Guardiola himself will probably start his last season at Manchester City after the summer break. He has a contract until mid-2025 and it does not appear that this will be extended.

“The reality is that I am more likely to leave than to stay longer,” the coach said in May after securing the Premier League title. “I have been here for eight years now, soon to be nine. For now I have the feeling that I will stay until next season.”
