FC Barcelona is determined to appoint Hansi Flick as head coach, it has confirmed Mundo Deportivo Friday. Xavi is still at the helm of the Catalans, but that does not seem to last long. Flick is without an employer after leaving as Germany coach last September.

Flick is expected to be officially presented by Barcelona on Monday. Chairman Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco want to do business quickly with the 59-year-old German, who, according to the German branch of Sky Sports has already reached a personal agreement with the number two in LaLiga.

According to Mundo Deportivo Barcelona wants to sign Flick for one season, with the option of another season with the Spanish superpower. Any extension of the commitment depends on the results achieved under Flick. Deco was convinced of bringing in the German trainer after a 'summit meeting' in London this Wednesday.

It is expected that Laporta and Deco will talk to Xavi and the rest of the Barcelona technical staff on Monday. The current head coach will probably hear that he has to make way for Flick. Normally, Xavi will be on the bench for the Catalans for the last time on Sunday against Sevilla.

Xavi

More than a month ago it was announced that coach Xavi had changed his mind and, despite his announced departure, would remain in his post. The situation now appears to be different again, as Barcelona is fully committed to the arrival of Flick.

The reason for Xavi's possible dismissal would be statements about the club's financial situation at a press conference last Monday. Barcelona will have to pay a buyout fee, because the former midfielder has a continuous contract until mid-2025.

Flick

Flick worked for the German national team as an assistant coach for many years. His biggest success came in 2014, when he won the world title. Barcelona's intended new coach won the Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2020.

As Germany coach, Flick failed to survive the group stage at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In September last year he was dismissed after a 1-4 practice defeat against Japan. Germany starts the European Championship in their own country with Julian Nagelsmann as national coach.
