Marciano Vink is pleased with the appointment of Francesco Farioli as the new head coach of Ajax, the analyst said at ESPN. Vink cites, among other things, the low number of 29 goals conceded in Ligue 1 as an argument.

“In any case, they went for the first or second choice,” says Vink in conversation with presenter Fresia Cousiño Arias. “It was hanging over the market all the time: 'We really want Ten Hag', and Farioli would be a very good option.”

“I think there is at least clarity with Farioli and you can now work towards the new season. The messages from all Dutch people who worked with him at Nice are quite positive.” For example, Calvin Stengs spoke positively about the 35-year-old Italian at an earlier stage.

“What can also be quite positive, because we don't know that yet, is that Ajax has left a lot of holes defensively this year: 61 goals conceded. And he is really known for the fact that he makes the team perform so well, positioning so well… Long-term possession, good build-up. I think it's positive that you give away less from there.”

“He has conceded 29 goals in the competition. On the one hand, I am very excited to see someone unknown to us working with Ajax.”

OGC Nice finished fifth in Ligue 1 this season. Until the penultimate round, the southern French still had a chance to finish in the top three, but a defeat against Paris Saint-Germain threw a spanner in the works.

Ajax initially went for Graham Potter, but negotiations between the parties came to nothing. Erik ten Hag was also mentioned, but the coach still works at Manchester United. Farioli, who brings two assistants with Daniele Cavalletto and Felipe Sánchez Mateo, will sign in the Johan Cruijff ArenA until mid-2027.
