Marcus Pedersen will return to Feyenoord next summer, as became clear last weekend after Sassuolo's final relegation from Serie A. The option to purchase in the rental contract of 6 million euros (excluding 1 million euros in bonuses) will not be exercised, as i Neroverdi descend to Italy's second tier. Pedersen is still in De Kuip until mid-2026.
At an earlier stage, all details surrounding Pedersen's transfer to Sassuolo were revealed. The Italians rent the 21-time Norwegian international until the end of the season, with a mandatory option to buy for 6 million euros, excluding variables. However, there was a crucial catch: if Sassuolo were relegated, a permanent transfer of Pedersen would not take place.
Last Sunday it became clear that Feyenoord can wave to the millions, as Sassuolo lost at home against Cagliari (0-2). Seventeenth, and therefore a safe place in Serie A, is no longer feasible for Sassuolo even if they win the remaining match against Lazio.
Pedersen therefore seems to return to De Kuip next summer. The 23-year-old wing defender is still contracted for two seasons in Rotterdam South. Whether Pedersen still has a future at Feyenoord remains to be seen. Last month it was announced that he is no longer together with his Dutch girlfriend and hockey player Noor Omrani. Transfer market estimates its current market value at around 6.5 million euros.
Pedersen alternated starting places with reserve appearances at Sassuolo. The counter currently stands at 1,735 minutes, spread over 29 official performances in Italy. Pedersen was good for two assists.
Feyenoord brought Pedersen to the Netherlands in the summer of 2021. The lightning-fast wing defender, who can also play on the left flank, was acquired from Molde FK for 2 million euros. In the two seasons that Pedersen played under coach Arne Slot, he could almost always count on a starting place.
Pedersen has played 88 official matches for Feyenoord so far, in which he scored 1 goal and 7 assists. With the Rotterdam team he managed to win the national championship in the Eredivisie in the 2022/23 season.
