Top players, but also clubs from home and abroad, provide an insight into the ins and outs of the football world (almost) every day via Instagram, X or other internet channels. In this edition of VZ Social attention to Berat Djimsiti, who showed his best side on Wednesday evening.

The Albanian wore the captain's armband in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen (3-0) due to the absence of Marten de Roon, who is struggling with an injury, and Rafael Tolói. Djimsiti played the full ninety minutes and was presented with the Europa League trophy after the match.

The defender then walked straight to De Roon to be the first to hold up the trophy together with him and club captain Tolói. The Dutch midfielder injured his hamstring in the Coppa Italia final against Juventus (0-1 loss), so he had to watch on Wednesday evening.

“What should have been the most important week of my career turned out to be the biggest nightmare,” said a disappointed De Roon on Instagram last week. Despite his injury, the midfielder has been included in the provisional European Championship selection of the Dutch team.

Italian media already reported that the European Championship is still feasible. It is of course not yet known whether Koeman intends to include the controller in his final European Championship selection, but an injury would of course throw a spanner in the works anyway.
