Joshua Brenet is part of Curaçao's final selection for the World Cup qualifiers with Barbados (June 6) and Aruba (June 9). It was previously announced that Brenet had received permission from FIFA, despite the fact that he already played two international matches for the Netherlands in 2016.

Due to a relaxation of FIFA rules, Brenet now has the opportunity to play for Curaçao. National coach Dick Advocaat wants to take advantage of this immediately, given the fact that he has included the thirty-year-old defender in the final selection.

Brenet is currently clubless, as his contract with FC Twente was torn up at the end of March. The court in Almelo ruled that the defender must be jailed for a month. Brenet was caught driving without a license twice in a short period of time, while he was still on probation.

In addition, the defender was given a conditional community service order of twenty hours. Due to this new conviction, he now has to carry it out. Twente did not want to wait for Brenet's appeal and said goodbye to the defender prematurely.

Even though Brenet has not played an official match for some time, Advocaat decided to select him. In addition to Barbados and Aruba, Haiti and Saint Lucia are also in the qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup with Curaçao.

23 players

Curaçao's selection for the two international matches in June has a total of 23 players. Apart from Brenet, there are no surprises.

Other well-known names in the Netherlands who are part of the selection include Eloy Room, Ar'Jany Martha, Vurnon Anita, Juninho Bacuna, Leandro Bacuna, Jürgen Locadia and Brandley Kuwas.
