Juventus won the Coppa Italia on Wednesday evening. An early goal from Dusan Vlahovic was enough to beat Atalanta 0-1. There was more setback for Atalanta, as Marten de Roon had to be substituted after he misstepped during Vlahovic's goal attempt. There are fears that he has suffered a serious knee injury.

As expected, there were starting places for Marten de Roon and Teun Koopmeiners at Atalanta. Hans Hateboer and Mitchel Bakker started on the bench during the Italian cup final. Filip Kostic and Arek Milik were reserve players at Juventus, where the attacking danger had to come from Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa, among others.

Atalanta got off to a dramatic start at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Vlahovic cleverly escaped offside, only to score 0-1 in cool blood for goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi. A big blow for the Europa League finalist, who had a very difficult time with Juve in the remainder of the first half.

Charles De Ketelaere, one of the standouts during Atalanta's 2-1 win over AS Roma on Sunday, had very little to offer in an attacking sense. Juventus kept the ranks closed at the back and went to the dressing room in the Italian capital with a good feeling and a 0-1 lead.

Gian Piero Gasperini intervened halfway and decided to leave De Ketelaere in the dressing room. El Bilal Touré replaced the 1.92 meter tall Belgian. Shortly after the restart, Vlahovic shouted for a penalty after a duel with Danilo, but the ball did not hit the spot. The Juventus goalscorer was booked for comments about the lead.

Gasperini made three more substitutions after an hour of play. Hateboer, among others, appeared within the lines of the team from Bergamo, in an attempt to clear the deficit. Vlahovic seemed to double Juventus' lead in minute 64, were it not for De Roon's fantastic intervention to prevent worse for Atalanta. The midfielder was injured during that action and had to be substituted immediately. The inspector seemed to have misstepped and left the field in tears.

Vlahovic seemed to make it 0-2 twenty minutes before the end. The goal was canceled for offside after a VAR check. So Atalanta was still alive, although it was fortunate that Fabio Miretti hit the crossbar with a hard shot. In the meantime, Milik had come on for the battle-weary Vlahovic.

It remained exciting until the end, but Juventus' tiny lead was no longer in danger. Well into injury time, trainer Massimiliano Allegri received a red card after he had gone completely crazy along the line. The coach took off his jacket and tie and therefore had to leave for the stands. From there he saw his team win the Coppa Italia.

Atalanta is licking its wounds after the defeat and De Roon's withdrawal after the break. Gasperini's team will visit Lecce in Serie A on Saturday. Four days later the final of the Europa League will take place in Dublin, with the almost unbeatable Bayer Leverkusen as opponent.
