Robert van Overdijk is in the picture to become the new general manager of Ajax, it is reported BNR. Van Overdijk is known for his role as general manager of Circuit Zandvoort and the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix.

Ajax is forced to look for a new general manager after it suspended Alex Kroes on Tuesday. The new director traded with insider information by purchasing shares.

The Supervisory Board of Ajax then drew its conclusions and suspended Kroes, who had only been employed for two weeks. In the search for a successor, the Amsterdammers ended up with Van Overdijk.

Van Overdijk was also in the picture at AZ to succeed the departing Robert Eenhoorn, but that vacancy has been filled by Merijn Zeeman, the current technical director of cycling team Visma-Lease a Bike.

In 2018, Van Overdijk exchanged the Brabanthallen for the Zandvoort Circuit. He worked at Libéma for almost ten years and was responsible for major music events such as 'A State of Trance' with Armin van Buuren and the well-known Foute Party by Q-music.

During his time at Libéma, Van Overdijk was also on the management of Beekse Bergen and Sportiom. One of Van Overdijk's wishes was to bring the Formula 1 Grand Prix back to the Netherlands, which he ultimately succeeded in doing.
