Patrick Kluivert has provided explanation regarding his sudden departure from Adana Demirspor at the end of 2023. The Dutch trainer was only at the helm of the Turkish club for a few months and performed creditably, but the employment contract quickly came to an end last December. Bee Rondo Kluivert reveals the reason for his departure: he and his staff were not paid a salary.

At the table Ziggoprogram, the former striker is asked about his retirement from Adana Demirspor. “We basically terminated the contract jointly,” Kluivert begins his story.

When Kluivert left the Süper Lig club, the team was in a creditable fourth place in the competition. “We were doing well, we had good results. But we didn't get our salary.”

“Okay, one month no salary, two months no salary, three months no salary,” continues the currently transfer-free coach. “At one point I thought: we work well, the results are top. But we don't get paid.”

“And at a certain point the players also started to complain. It also took over in the preparations and training that they were not paid. Nobody was paid.”

The lack of salary was not immediately a reason for Kluivert to want to leave Adana Demirspor. “I could do without it for a while, but my staff also had to pay for things. Players also got the feeling of: 'things are going well, why aren't we getting paid?'. That started to take over a bit.”

Ultimately, Kluivert was told by the technical director in December 2023 that Adana Demirspor did not want to continue with him and the trainer himself was certainly not unwilling to leave at that time. Kluivert was accused of losing control of the dressing room, but did not agree with that message. “Because we were fourth.”
