Georginio Wijnaldum 'really wanted to return to Feyenoord' last summer, as Mikos Gouka quotes him in a message on Algemeen Dagblad places a photo of Wijnaldum with the message, in which he visibly gives an interview ESPN.

Wijnaldum had to leave the field at Paris Saint-Germain last summer. Ultimately, he only moved to Al-Ettifaq on September 2. The Saudi Arabian club paid eight million euros for his services.

The midfielder admits that he would have liked to return to Feyenoord last summer. He already played in the main squad of the Rotterdam team between 2007 and 2011.
“I would have really liked to return to Feyenoord in the summer, but PSG asked for ten million euros…” Gouka quotes Wijnaldum's interview.

“In addition, there was also my salary. That made it virtually impossible. It was only possible if I gave up a lot and I didn't want that. Other than that, there were not many options,” concludes the 33-year-old Rotterdam resident.

Ultimately, Wijnaldum left his childhood love behind for an adventure in the Middle East. At Al-Ettifaq he became a teammate of Jordan Henderson. The latter had desert regrets and left for Ajax last winter.

Wijnaldum has no regrets and has played almost all possible matches for his new club so far. In 19 league matches he managed to score 6 goals and provide 2 assists. Those figures were enough for national coach Ronald Koeman to include him in the Dutch selection.
