FC Volendam encountered a new problem on Sunday evening. The relegation candidate lost 0-4 to SC Heerenveen at home. Pelle van Amersfoort was the big man on the side of the winning away team with two goals.

Van Amersfoort started at Heerenveen, as has often been the case lately, at the point of attack. The Frisian formation lacks a permanent striker, which is why Van Amersfoort – originally a midfielder – often plays as number 9.

It wouldn't be long until Heerenveen took the lead in the Kras Stadium. The Frisians struck in the thirteenth minute. From deep in his own half, Thom Haye sent an impressive deep pass towards Van Amersfoort, so that the occasional attacker suddenly found himself one-on-one with Volendam keeper Mio Backhaus: 0-1.

Most of the other chances in the first half were also for the visitors. Volendam's biggest chance came about ten minutes before half-time, but Robert Mühren's attempt was saved without too much effort by Mickey van der Hart, who still kept Andries Noppert out of the starting line-up.

In the second half, Heerenveen would achieve a clear victory. Immediately after half-time, Pawel Bochniewicz thought he could double the margin, but his goal was disallowed due to annoying offside by a teammate.

In minute 66, Heerenveen still struck. After some fumbling in Volendam's defense, which had unnecessary difficulty clearing the ball, the ball ended up at Simon Olsson's feet: 0-2.

Just two minutes later it happened again. Van Amersfoort was pushed into the depth again, this time by defender Sven van Beek. With a wonderful marker, Van Amersfoort managed to score: 0-3.

There was no problem for Heerenveen, but the match still had a dark side for the Frisians. Espen Van Ee was allowed to come on fifteen minutes before the end, but he would not make it to the end of the game. After a rash tackle, he was sent off the field by referee Rob Dieperink.

Even with one man less, Heerenveen had little to tolerate from Volendam, as the score was even 0-4. After cutting out two players, Haye determined the final score from just inside the penalty area with a beautiful curling shot.
