Latest update:

Luuk Brouwers is absolutely dissatisfied with the arbitration that had to guide the match between Fortuna Sittard and SC Heerenveen (3-3). The reason for the midfielder's anger is an easily given penalty to Fortuna.

Syb van Ottele committed the foul. After a throw-in he tried to intervene, but Justin Lonwijk got to the ball just before, contacted the defender and willingly dived to the turf.

In an interview after the match, Brouwers showed his anger. “That boy is looking for his leg. Come on man, what is this? Sorry, but this isn't a penalty, is it?” he asks, bewildered.

“It's really scandalous,” Brouwers grumbles. “Abolish VAR then. This is clearly not a penalty. If this had happened in midfield, we would have continued.”

Brouwers shows complete understanding for Lonwijk. “Here he looks for the penalty very cleverly, and he gets it. The VAR is there to make the result as fair as possible.”

Brouwers believes that the video referee should have sent Jannick van der Laan to the screen to reconsider his decision. “He can at least call the referee to have it looked at.”

Partly thanks to the penalty, Fortuna fought back to 2-2 after being 0-2 behind. The Frisians seemed to have come away with the victory after a nice 2-3, if it had not been for Alen Halilovic who set the final score at 3-3 just before the end.
