FC Barcelona has done excellent business in LaLiga. Coach Xavi's team won 1-3 against Deportivo Alavés. Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring before half-time, marking his first goal in LaLiga since December 10. Shortly after half-time, Ilkay Gündogan doubled the lead, before Samu Omorodion brought back the tension. Vitor Roque then ended the game. Thanks to the victory, Barcelona now has 50 points, good for third place. Alavés is eleventh.

Frenkie de Jong was given a starting place by Xavi, who opted for Andreas Christensen and Gündogan in midfield. Striker Lewandowski was flanked by Lamine Yamal and Pedri, while Pau Cubarsí, who recently turned seventeen, was central to the defense alongside Ronald Araújo.

Alavés started the game promisingly, although the desired opportunities did not materialize. Barcelona earned a few corner kicks, from which no goals were scored. Halfway through the first half, Barcelona still scored. Gündogan served Lewandowski, who outwitted Alavés goalie Antonio Sivera with a nice marker: 0-1.

The goal did not mean that Alavés simply gave up. In fact, the home team had some excellent opportunities. For example, Iñaki Peña was forced to save Jon Guridi's header and Alavés got his second big chance of the match just before half-time. Omorodion was freely reached in the box and the loanee from Atlético Madrid saw his volley just go wide.

Just after half time, Gündogan beautifully made it 0-2. The German international scored convincingly at the far post after an excellent and subtle cross from Pedri. A few moments later, Alavés managed to fully get back into the match. Álex Sola trumped De Jong on the right side of the field and passed to Omorodion, who made it 1-2 with a header.

Barcelona quickly managed to bring the margin back to two. After a nice feint by Yamal, Barcelona got space on the left. De Jong was played and served seventeen-year-old Héctor Fort, who passed to Vitor Roque and saw how the Brazilian calmly deposited the ball in the far corner: 1-3. These were eventful minutes for Roque, who had to leave the field ten minutes later with his second yellow card. On his second offense he appeared to have done little wrong, but protests went nowhere.

Despite the undernumbered situation, Barcelona hardly encountered any problems in the final phase. Alavés tried, but despite the introduction of Giuliano Simeone and Ianis Hagi, among others, it did not progress beyond a few set pieces. Javi López came close to scoring deep into injury time, but his header went wide.
