Ivory Coast has managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the African Cup in an almost unbelievable way. The host country had to play with one man less against Mali for more than half, but managed to make it 1-1 just before the end. In extra time, Ivory Coast made it 1-2 and received two more red cards. Ivory Coast will face DR Congo in the semi-finals.

After fifteen minutes of play, Adama Traoré (Hull City) had the perfect opportunity to put Mali ahead from the spot. However, Yahia Fofana saved the penalty kick caused by Odilon Kossounou, leaving the score on the scoreboard.

Kossounou did not have a very happy match, as he was sent off with his second yellow card just before half time. After the break, Mali managed to take advantage of the surplus situation. Nene Dorgeles pulled off a brilliant effort and found the cross behind the hopeless Yahia Fofana: 1-0.

After a good move by Simon Adingra, Seko Fofana got a shooting opportunity, but the former RC Lens captain saw his shot turned away by Mali's defense. However, the ball got stuck and the passing Adingra managed to take full advantage of it: 1-1.

So extra time was needed and in injury time the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké went crazy. Seko Fofana played devastatingly and saw his effort fly into the goal via Oumar Diakité: 1-2. Diakité took off his shirt in all the craziness, received his second yellow card and therefore red: no semi-final. Even deeper into injury time, Malian Hamari Traoré also received a red card after he reacted furiously to the referee.
