Brian Brobbey broke a club record at Ajax on Saturday evening. The striker of the Amsterdam team provided the assist for Steven Berghuis's 1-0, and was therefore involved in a goal for the twelfth Eredivisie match in a row. With this he broke a record set by Ruud Geels from the 1970s.

On Saturday, Brobbey recorded a goal or an assist in an Eredivisie match for the twelfth game in a row in which he played: since the end of October, he has scored eleven goals and has been the announcer five times.

In doing so, he equaled the record this century set by Bryan Ruiz, who was also involved in a goal in twelve consecutive matches in 2009. Brobbey did break an Ajax club record: it was previously held by Geels, who was involved in a goal in eleven matches in a row.

“A nice record for me,” Brobbey comments after the match ESPN. “Of course I am always well involved, and I want to continue to do so. I can't complain about how things have been going lately.”

When reporter Hans Kraay junior tells him that fifty years ago Geels was involved in a goal in eleven matches in a row, the striker responds: “I didn't exist then. Ruud Geels… No, I don't know him.”

Brobbey also describes his role in the 1-0. “A very nice ball from Berghuis with its outside. I tapped him just too far ahead of me. I was a bit disappointed about that. Then I saw Berghuis running free, and he finished it nicely.”

All in all, the attacker thought that Ajax should have won the game. “I think it was a difficult game, in which both teams did quite well. We had chances, they had chances. But I thought we should win with all the chances we had.”
