Latest update:

John van 't Schip will soon have access to Sivert Mannsverk again. The Norwegian midfielder will play with Jong Ajax against Jong FC Utrecht next Monday, the Amsterdam coach confirmed at the press conference in the run-up to the top match with PSV.

“The intention is for him to play next Monday,” Van 't Schip said during the press talk. Mannsverk, who came over from Molde FK in the summer for six million euros, was out of action for a long time after his unfortunate debut match against FC Twente (3-1 loss).

Much longer, in fact, than Amsterdam fans expected. Ultimately, the 21-year-old defensive midfielder missed no fewer than sixteen official matches in four months of football due to a lingering foot injury.

But now his return seems imminent. He will join the promising team on Monday, after which he is expected to soon join the main squad of the record champion.

Branco van den Boomen's recovery is also progressing steadily, the interim coach said. “That's going well, but he is not yet training with the group. That will take some time.”

Van 't Schip suddenly has a lot more options for the number six position. In addition to the soon-to-be returning Mannsverk and Van den Boomen, the coach also has Jordan Henderson at his disposal, who will make his (starting) debut against PSV on Sunday.

In addition, Kian Fitz-Jim was recalled from his rental period at Excelsior, while Benjamin Tahirovic has often been doing the honors as a defensive midfielder due to the many absences lately.

Ahmetcan Kaplan

Another 'forgotten' asset is Ahmetcan Kaplan. The Turkish defender is currently working for Jong Ajax. Van 't Schip also shed light on his development during the press conference.

“Kaplan is fit and plays ninety-minute matches. His performance still goes up and down a bit, but he is a young and good boy and has to wait for his moment,” said the trainer.
