Kevin van Veen will play for Kilmarnock for the rest of the season, he added live on television ESPN known. Van Veen rejected St. Mirren and would have preferred to play for Hearts, but that fell through. This brings a temporary end to an unfortunate period of rush hour in Groningen.

Reported earlier on Thursday Football International that in addition to Kilmarnock, Van Veen also enjoyed specific interest from St. Mirren, but Van Veen has therefore opted for Kilmarnock, the current number four in the Scottish Premiership. “That club was still fighting it out with St. Mirren, but I have a slightly different feeling about the Kilmarnock coach. I am an emotional person, so that is what I go for,” says Van Veen.

The fact that there is interest from Scotland should come as no surprise given his extremely successful past in that country. Last season, the now 32-year-old Eindhove native made a big impression by scoring no fewer than 25 times in one season.

Van Veen left for Groningen at the beginning of this season, where expectations were high. However, with five goals in fourteen matches, the goalkeeper's productivity was disappointing. Moreover, he was not assured of a starting place. “Five months ago I finished a great season. Then I came here and I don't recognize myself anymore.”

“I have become a completely different striker, I had to do things that I was less good at. The trainer talked to me about this, but unfortunately I was not allowed to get the chance. Then I think this is the best The outcome is.'” Moreover, Van Veen had a difficult time in the Netherlands this season, as his family still lives in Scotland.

“I'm going back to Scotland as my situation here is a bit difficult. I'm going to try to find my joy in football again and be closer to my daughter. That's important for me mentally.”

Van Veen will 'normally' return to Groningen at the end of the season. Kilmarnock has not included an option to purchase in the lease deal with the Pride of the North. “I think FC Groningen is a fantastic club, let that be clear. But unfortunately it did not turn out to be what we expected.”
