Real Madrid has taken over the top position in LaLiga from Girona. The Royal won 0-2 against Getafe thanks to a double by Joselu. Thanks to the victory, Real Madrid now has 57 points from 22 matches, while Girona has two points less. Real Madrid's lead over both Atlético and FC Barcelona is ten points.

Carlo Ancelotti chose to position Joselu in the striker position next to Vinícius Júnior. Rodrygo therefore had to make do with a place on the bench. Luka Modric was allowed to start in midfield, which meant that Toni Kroos was on the bench. Andriy Lunin was preferred to Kepa Arrizabalaga on goal.

Real Madrid dominated the opening phase at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. It came close to the opening goal early on, were it not for Joselu hitting the crossbar. Not much later, Vinícius Júnior also thought about a goal, but the Brazilian saw David Soria make an excellent save.

Yet the opening goal would come before fifteen minutes. Federico Valverde passed on the right to Lucas Vázquez, who sent a beautiful cross to Joselu. The striker headed home from close range: 0-1.

Real Madrid were in control and had opportunities to extend their lead. Modric shot just over Soria's goal, who distinguished himself moments later with a shot from Joselu. Real Madrid failed to make it 0-2 before halftime, but nevertheless had little to fear from Getafe.

After the break, Getafe showed up better and the home team had a great chance through Mason Greenwood, but he hit the post. On the other hand, Real Madrid doubled their lead. Vinícius Júnior turned open, looked up and reached Joselu with a splitting pass. The Spaniard, in turn, took an excellent lead and then convincingly found the far corner with his left: 0-2.

Twenty minutes before the end, Borja Mayoral seemed to be on his way to the tying goal, but it did not come. To his own disbelief, the former Real Madrid striker shot from close range against the post. Greenwood also came very close again. The Englishman cut in from the right and shot just centimeters wide of Lunin's post with his left. It was Getafe's last serious threat and so Real Madrid achieved an important victory in the battle for the Spanish league title.
