Abdelhak Nouri’s family initially demanded sixty million euros from Ajax. Menno de Galan writes this in his book Ajax in crisis. The journalist and reporter will release a book on Thursday about the demise of the Amsterdam club. Het Parool was allowed to view the book in advance.

On July 8, 2017, Nouri suffered cardiac arrest during a practice match in Austria. As a result, the midfielder has suffered serious and permanent brain damage.

Ajax later confirmed that Nouri’s medical care in the acute phase on the field was inadequate and, as an employer, acknowledged liability for the consequences.

Ultimately, Ajax and Nouri’s family reached an agreement on the compensation to be paid by the club. Even before the case could come before the KNVB Arbitration Committee, both parties reached an agreement for an amount of 7,850,000 euros.

De Galan writes in his book Ajax in crisis that the Nouri family initially bet much higher, namely sixty million euros. The club did not go along with that. The family initially filed a lawsuit with the Arbitration Commission, but saw this ended by the out-of-court settlement.

Tribute
Last summer, Ajax created a permanent place in the Johan Cruiff ArenA as a tribute to Nouri. The dressing room furniture from Appie was moved in the presence of father Mohammed Nouri and has been given a place in the fan shop.
