Willem van Hanegem knows that Mitchel Bakker will make a summer transfer. In his weekly column in the General Journal the former midfielder discusses, among other things, the guest appearance of Erwin van de Looi in the program Good morning Playoffs, where the national coach of the Dutch Juniors elaborated on the lack of Bakker in the European Championship selection. Bayer Leverkusen’s wing defender initially refused to participate, but later changed his mind (too late) and still hoped for a place in the selection.

Bakker recently reported to Van de Looi for the European Under 21 Championship with the Dutch Juniors, only to return to his decision three days later and still want to go. That said the choice lord of the ‘little the Dutch’ during Good morning Playoffs on ESPN. Van de Looi eventually decided to no longer use the services of Bakker, who, according to Van Hanegem’s words, is counting on a transfer.

“Bakker was not in the mood for the European Championship with the Dutch Juniors, Van de Looi said,” Van Hanegem writes in his column. “And later suddenly it was, but then it was no longer necessary. But Bakker can make a transfer, I happen to know. And the new club that hopes to sign him wants him there right away. That is not possible if you play a European Championship in the summer. So he expressed those doubts. That is different from not wanting to play a European Championship, ”said the Curvewho does not say anything about Bakker’s possible destination.

The former Ajax player will therefore miss the European Championship, which will be held in Romania and Georgia from 9 June to 2 July. He had just earned an election with his good game for Bayer Leverkusen, where the 22-year-old left back came to forty official games this season. Bakker provided two assists and scored four goals. With Ian Maatsen and Quilindschy Hartman, Van de Looi now has two other left backs in the selection.
