Liverpool booked their sixth win in a row in the Premier League on Saturday night. At Anfield, manager Jürgen Klopp’s team was 1-0 too strong for Brentford. Virgil van Dijk played an important part in the victory by assisting Mohamed Salah’s goal. The victory moves Liverpool closer to the top four, although Manchester United and Newcastle United have played two games less.

At Liverpool there were again base places for Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo. The former played an important role in Salah’s early opening goal. Van Dijk placed the ball with his head wide on Salah, who was able to tap in the 1-0 from close range. The goal marked a milestone for the attacker: it was his 100th goal for Liverpool at Anfield in all competitions. He also became the first player in club history to score nine consecutive games at Anfield.

Klopp’s team then did not have an easy visit to Brenford. Liverpool even escaped with a shock when a goal from Bryan Mbeumo was disallowed for offside. Early in the second half, Gakpo failed to double the margin. After a tight cross from Diogo Jota, the the Dutch international only had to work the ball in, but he got the ball a bit clumsy on his knee. Knew in the remainder of the game the Reds not exactly convincing. Bringing in Luis Díaz and Jordan Henderson also failed to have the desired effect. Nevertheless, Liverpool recorded their sixth Premier League win in a row.
