Alfred Schreuder has arrived in Athens to hold talks with Olympiacos Piraeus, according to various Greek media. The reigning national champion is looking for a trainer for the coming season and Schreuder seems to be filling that vacancy. De Barnevelder has been clubless since his resignation from Ajax. Frank de Boer would also be on Olympiacos’ list, although Schreuder seems to be the main candidate.

Olympiacos said goodbye to Michel at the beginning of April because of the disappointing results. The Frenchman José Anigo became his temporary successor, but the management of the club from the port city wants a new trainer for the group next season. Olympiacos is currently third in the Greek league and, twelve points behind AEK Athens and Panathinaikos, it can forget about the national championship. On Wednesday, the outgoing national champion lost 2-1 against Aris Saloniki.

Frank de Boer would also be an option for Olympiacos, which seems to be aiming its arrows at Schreuder for the time being. At the beginning of this year, the coach seemed to be well on his way to a new employment at Club Brugge, which ultimately did not work with Schreuder. General manager Vincent Mannaert recently announced that the additional requirements of the trainer were reason for the Belgians to look further.

If Schreuder actually starts working at Olympiacos, it would certainly not be his first foreign adventure. In addition to Bruges, he was also responsible for TSG Hoffenheim and assistant coach to Ronald Koeman of Barcelona. After his employment in Catalonia, Schreuder went to work at Bruges, with which he became champion of Belgium in 2022. It resulted in concrete interest from Ajax. In Amsterdam, the marriage between club and trainer stranded earlier this season after the disappointing results.
