Rafael van der Vaart believes that Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder gets himself into unnecessary trouble, says the former midfielder at Rondo on Ziggo Sports. Ajax will face Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday and the big question among the team from Amsterdam is who will start in the striker. Van der Vaart believes that Schreuder has made it difficult for himself by rotating between Brian Brobbey and Mohammed Kudus.

In the talk show, presenter Wytse van der Goot asks who should be in rush hour on Tuesday. Marco van Basten says he doesn’t know, while Youri Mulder thinks Kudus will play because Brobbey didn’t do well against Go Ahead Eagles (1-1) in his opinion. Van der Vaart is a lot more outspoken. “The problem is that sometimes you put Kudus in the rush, while Brobbey did very well. Then Kudus does very well again and you can’t take him out anymore. You are giving yourself problems. Just leave it as it is .”

The former Ajax player draws a comparison with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, which Casemiro took over from Real Madrid this summer for a maximum of seventy million euros. “He arrives three days before Manchester United – Liverpool, so you just put him on the bench. They play fantastic in one go (Man United won 2-1, ed.) and you can’t draft him the next game. And he is still not playing. Maybe now after this match…”, Van der Vaart refers to the ear washing that the Red Devils on Sunday at Manchester City (6-3 loss).

Van der Vaart believes that a striker needs confidence. “If you are taken out, the other striker scores and you get another chance, that is not good either. Then you feel too much pressure to score. Sometimes that is not good at all, although I am a huge fan of Kudus Van der Vaart says. Van Basten says he believes that teams should participate in a fixed base eleven as much as possible. “That’s more or less what Napoli does.” The duel in the Johan Cruijff ArenA starts on Tuesday at 9 p.m.
