Cristiano Ronaldo may leave Manchester United in January, reveals The Telegraph Monday. According to the British newspaper, the 37-year-old attacker will receive permission from Erik ten Hag to change clubs in a few months. Ronaldo, who is at Old Trafford until mid-2023 with the option of an extra season, does not have a base place under the Dutch manager.

Ten Hag lay down in August for a premature departure from Ronaldo. At the time, the veteran was linked to, among other things, his old club Sporting Portugal, but a return to Portugal was out of the question. Less than two months later, things seem very different at United. Ten Hag would now be open to a winter departure from Ronaldo, provided an attractive offer comes in from Manchester.

Ronaldo hopes that he can still regularly play at United before the World Cup, which starts for Portugal on November 24 with a group match against Ghana. The banker thinks his chances of a January transfer will increase. The Telegraph emphasizes that despite his role as reserve, Ronaldo does not make an unmotivated impression. The Portuguese star would still behave professionally at Carrington training complex and around competitions.

Ten Hag left Ronaldo on the bench against Manchester City (6-3 loss) for ninety minutes on Sunday. The decision was made “out of respect for Ronaldo himself and his great career,” the manager said. Ten Hag’s explanation led to a harsh judgment from former player Roy Keane in the studio of Sky Sports. “Ronaldo could have played well, because they were already finished by City anyway. The coach is all about pressure, the new magic word in football… I don’t care if he gives me 20 or 25 goals. Last season he was the club’s top scorer and even then he didn’t put much pressure. They have already lost three league games this season!”
