Juventus closed the 2021/22 season on Saturday in minor. In the very last game of Giorgio Chiellini, Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi for la Vecchia Signora Only opponent Fiorentina had the points, and crowned the fighting spirit with a 2-0 victory. The extremely unfortunate Chiellini did not experience the final whistle: the veteran, who played for Juventus for seventeen years, had to drop out at halftime due to an injury. Matthijs de Ligt also had a basic place in the 3-5-2 system of trainer Massimiliano Allegri.

All that mattered for Fiorentina was a win: the club was seventh before Saturday’s game (which entitles the play-off round of the Conference League), but Atalanta was tied on points and came into action at the same time against low-flying Empoli. With a win, la Viola undoubtedly be assured of seventh place, given the positive head-to-head result against Atalanta.

The bet seemed to do the team of Vincenzo Italiano well, as it was mainly Fiorentina who made the game. The first big opportunity, however, was on the other side: Pietro Terracciano was out of his goal just in time to prevent Moise Kean from cashing in on a slip from Nikola Milenkovic. Fiorentina, however, started to move more and more towards Mattia Perin’s goal and saw the hard work rewarded just before half-time. Chiellini was unable to get the ball away during an attack by the home team, after which it ended up with Alfred Duncan. The Ghanaian was on the lookout and left Perin without a chance: 1-0.

At the time, it was questionable whether Chiellini would return after tea, as the Juve contract player had suffered an ugly head injury since 2004 during a duel. Fear became reality: the veteran was forced to be replaced by Daniele Rugani. The picture of the game remained unchanged shortly after the break. Fiorentina looked to double the margin and took no precautions to finish a minor victory. While the match was coming to an end, it became known that competitor Atalanta had also fallen behind, after which the party broke out in the stands. Juventus couldn’t make a fist anymore – not even Dybala, who also waved off, who was invisible for the entire game. Things got even worse when Leandro Bonucci conceded a penalty in stoppage time. Nico González cashed in flawlessly and put the 2-0 final score on the scoreboard. The selection of Allegri was and remains fourth, which entitles them to direct qualification for the group stage of the Champions League.
