Roger Schmidt is considering taking Mario Götze to Benfica. The future Benfica trainer has put the name of the attacking midfielder on his wish list of potential reinforcements, writes A Bola Monday night. Currently, Schmidt and Götze are already working together at PSV; in the summer of 2020 they came to Eindhoven together.

There are “significant obstacles” that could make a transfer of the world champion to Lisbon more difficult. For example, Götze has a continuous contract until mid-2024, although it is said to contain a limited lump sum of three to four million euros. He also earns a good salary. A Bola mentions more than two million euros on an annual basis, although it denied General Newspaper that in 2020.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated Götze already sowed doubts about his future in March. “For me as a footballer, the coach is the most important person,” he said, when it was already known that Schmidt would leave. “I still have in mind that I would like to win the Champions League. I would prefer to play in Italy or Spain, but the Premier League also appeals to me.” He also did not rule out a return to the Bundesliga. “RB Leipzig is an option. Domenico Tedesco is an interesting trainer with a lot of potential.”

On Saturday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that David Neres is also on Schmidt’s list. There is, according to Romano and oh jogo already spoken with the management of the winger of Shakhtar Donetsk, although nothing concrete has yet come out. According to GOAL it is only a matter of time before an agreement is reached by all parties involved. Schmidt will probably have to do without the coveted Darwin Nuñez next season. Romano predicted that 75 million euros is not enough for the striker who eliminated Ajax in the eighth final of the Champions League.
