Johan Derksen will soon be on television again. The disgraced football analyst spoke to Rutger Castricum over a month ago for a series about the inclusive society and the ‘woke culture’. The recording took place before Derksen left Today Inside when he concluded that in 2022 there is no longer a place on TV for someone like him and for the program he was part of.

The conversation is part of Including Rutger, a four-part series from PowNed. Castricum will discuss diversity and inclusiveness with people from politics and sport, but also from the culture sector and the media. Derksen protested at Today Inside last week against the ‘cancel and woke culture’, a ‘powerful movement’ that in his eyes ‘is getting bigger and worse’. Henk ten Cate, among others, has also been roped in by Castricum as a discussion partner.

Derksen talks about the fuss that arose after his Akwasi joke two years ago. “We’re talking about the mechanics that arise when something is said,” Castricum explains to the General Newspaper† “He elaborates on the woke and cancel culture that have now become fatal to him as a TV personality. We do not think an update of the conversation is necessary, because he already mentions exactly what he also had to deal with after this interview.”

Incidentally, Derksen was not ‘cancelled’ on television, but resigned of his own accord. Several radio stations did pull the plug from his Music for Adults program on their own initiative, while his theater show was also cancelled. ‘Woke’ is a term that refers to awareness of racism issues and social injustice against minorities in society. Derksen said he penetrated an unconscious woman with a candle when he was younger, but claimed to have placed the candle between her legs a day later. He spoke of a ‘childhood sin’ and said he was ashamed of the incident, which made other diners laugh.
