SC Heerenveen and SC Cambuur shared the points on Sunday in a wonderful football fight. In the Abe Lenstra Stadium, the arch-rivals were very evenly matched, which seemed to end in a draw for a long time. However, in the last minute of extra time, Mitchel Paulissen thought he would plunge Heerenveen into mourning with the apparently decisive 2-3. At the last minute, however, Joost van Aken managed to get a point out of the fire for the home team: 3-3.

The heated character of the Frisian derby was expressed on the field from the first whistle. Only 113 seconds after Cambuur had kicked off, Thom Haye was able to steam up on the right side on behalf of the home team. The winter acquisition delivered the ball with a high cross to Anas Tahiri, who gave Stevens no chance with a rock-hard bet: 1-0. The goal worked like gazelles for a pride of lions for Heerenveen. Cambuur was put with his back against the wall and it was a matter of waiting for the 2-0, until the team of interim coach Pascal Bosspoelt suddenly equalized.

Roberts Uldrikis towered over everything and everyone with a pass from Patrick Joosten and Erwin Mulder – who was curiously enough in his goal – had no answer to his header: 1-1. The equalizer gave the Leeuwarders strength. The game now went up and down and the next hit could fall on either side. With almost half an hour on the clock, Sydney van Hooijdonk thought he would give Heerenveen the lead for the second time, but his goal was disallowed due to offside. Six minutes later, the striker got what he was looking for. Haye was allowed to score a free kick and put the ball on the head of Van Hooijdonk, who sent it nicely to the far corner: 2-1.

Immediately afterwards, Issa Kallon almost tied the score again, but his shot went into the side net. After the audience in the Abe Lenstra Stadium saw Nick Bakker drop out before half time due to an injury, it finally got a breather: rest. Cambuur came out much better after the break. With more than an hour on the clock, Kallon went to the grass, which referee Bas Nijhuis initially saw nothing in. However, after Nijhuis was called by the VAR, the arbiter rushed to the sidelines to reassess the situation. Penalty, Nijhuis ruled in the second instance; Robin Maulun was allowed to take place behind the ball. Cambuur’s specialist did not fail and brought the score back into balance.

Interim coach Ole Tobiasen’s eleven went on the hunt for the winning goal most. Amin Sarr and substitute Anthony Musabe in particular had another huge opportunity, but saw his attempt end up in the side net. Cambuur seemed content with a point. Nevertheless, the Leeuwarders scored again in the last minute of extra time. Paulissen thought he would give his team the victory in his 100th Eredivisie game. Van Aken made a different decision with his goal moments later at the very, very last moment.
