Mauro Júnior has become a fixture in the defense of cup winner PSV this season. The versatile wing defender is happy with his role in Eindhoven and is therefore not thinking about a premature departure from the Philips Stadium. The overall victory in the TOTO KNVB Cup tastes like more for the 22-year-old defender who is tied up at PSV until mid-2025.

“I want to develop further as a back and win even more prizes with PSV,” emphasizes Mauro in an extensive interview with the General Newspaper† The PSV player cannot yet say whether the Brazilian national team will come into the picture in the long term. “I would consider it an honour, but I am now working with PSV and we will see if something is added later. If everything goes well, I will also receive a Dutch passport in June or July, because I have been here for five years. is for later. First I want to expand what I’m doing now,” said the player with three youth caps for Brazil to his name.

Normally, Mauro reports back to PSV after the summer break, which is then led by Ruud van Nistelrooij. “Where will I play next season? I still have a long contract here and I’m very happy. If nothing crazy happens, I’ll just be here. I’m happy with every minute that I can wear the PSV shirt. It’s the club where I grew up and that I could win a prize here is something I dreamed of when I came to the Netherlands as a little boy,” said the right-back, who says he owes a lot to the departing Roger Schmidt.

“All players are equally important to Roger and I think that’s a good starting point,” continues the grateful PSV defender. “I think about him a lot and I also saw that other players got their opportunities and seized them, because for Roger it’s not just the first eleven players that count.” Mauro is preparing with PSV for the home game against relegation candidate Willem II on Sunday afternoon.
