Erik ten Hag is considering trying again at Manchester United to attract Steven Bergwijn, the reports Daily Mail† After an oral agreement with the English superpower, the Ajax trainer can carefully consider summer transfers and has been an admirer of the 24-year-old wing striker of Tottenham Hotspur, who turned out to be too expensive for Ajax in January.

Tottenham held on to an asking price of 30 million euros in January, the amount for which the attacker came over from PSV in early 2020. Bergwijn has not been part of Antonio Conte’s plans all season, but experienced a brief revival in January by claiming a star role against Leicester City (2-3 win). Bergwijn came in just before time and turned the game around with two goals. In the remainder of the winter transfer window were the Spurs even less eager to let the the Dutch international leave.

Bergwijn’s role at Tottenham has only diminished three months later: since the arrival of Juventus mercenary Dejan Kulusevski, Bergwijn had only one base place in a club. According to the Daily Mail may the former PSV player still take a step next summer and the asking price for this is 24 million euros. In addition to United, there is also interest from Germany and France.

Ten Hag has admired Bergwijn for a long time and tried to get the attacker to the Johan Cruijff ArenA together with Marc Overmars in the past three transfer windows. Bergwijn would be seen by the Ajax coach as ‘someone with the tools and energy to flourish in a Ten Hag system’ because of his multi-functionality – he can play in all places up front. Ten Hag was in the stands when Bergwijn took a starring role at the end of March with the the Dutch against Denmark (4-2 win, two goals from Bergwijn) and Germany (1-1, equalizer from Bergwijn).
