Bram van Polen has extended his expiring contract with PEC Zwolle by one year, the club announced through the official channels. The 36-year-old captain of the bottom line of the Eredivisie has been playing in the Hanseatic city since 2007 and is thus entering his sixteenth season for the club. Van Polen thought about quitting for some time at the beginning of this season, but still feels top fit and therefore decides to stick with it for another year.

At the end of March it became clear that Van Polen was not thinking about stopping yet. Regardless of whether Dick Schreuder’s team would be relegated, the veteran would like to remain loyal to the club for at least one more year. The love was mutual: Van Polen was not among the names whose contracts were formally canceled at the end of this season. Zwolle is now giving white smoke about the longer binding of the defender, who made the full ninety minutes in 22 of his 24 league games this season.

Van Polen still sees enough challenges to continue for a year, he says on the club website. “This is no different in this sportingly difficult year. I want to be there again next season, regardless of the level at which the club operates. But let one thing be clear: the belief in a good ending to this season is just like me. big within the rest of the player group.” PEC Zwolle is currently at the bottom of the Eredivisie, two points away from the numbers seventeen and sixteen Fortuna Sittard and Sparta Rotterdam. Willem II is just one point higher, which barely dangles above the relegation zone.

Technical manager of Zwolle Mike Willems shows successful negotiations with the captain. “He announced early on that he would like to sign another year and we also see an important role for Bram next season. Bram has his value for the club, inside and outside the lines of the field. We see that every week. I am therefore pleased that we are keeping him on board.” Van Polen has played 431 games for since his debut in 2007 the Bluefingers, in which he scored 36 goals and was a declarant 32 times. He experienced his absolute highlight in 2014, when PEC seized both the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Scale at the expense of Ajax.
