Liverpool are on the verge of finalizing the arrival of Fabio Carvalho, Fabrizio Romano reports. The Reds wanted to sign the 19-year-old Fulham attacking midfielder in January, but seized in the final hours of deadline day wrong. Because Carvalho has an expiring contract, Liverpool could now have recruited the Portuguese on a free transfer, but the English superpower extends a generous helping hand to Fulham and pays a maximum of 9.2 million euros.

In the late hours of Monday, January 31 this year, Liverpool pulled out all the stops to bring Carvalho to Anfield immediately. Both clubs reached an agreement just before midnight, making it a race against time to go through the personal conditions, take the medical examination and fill out other necessary papers. Liverpool failed to do so, which meant that the deal fell through at the last minute.

Liverpool did not give up and recently spoke with Fulham again about the talented midfielder, who has made a big impression in the Championship this season with 7 goals and 7 assists in 27 games. Despite the option to strike on a free transfer, Liverpool decided to respect the existing agreement. The nineteen-time English champion transfers a fixed sum of 6 million euros, to which 3.2 million euros in bonuses can be added.

In January, Fulham insisted that Carvalho finish the season on loan at Craven Cottage, but Liverpool have no intention of sending the youngster away immediately. Carvalho will have the chance to show himself to Jürgen Klopp in preparation, Romano knows. The number 10 has been playing in Great Britain since he was eleven and has an English passport in addition to a Portuguese. Initially, Carvalho represented the English youth teams, but in March he decided to switch and make his debut for Young Portugal.
