Oleksandr Zinchenko issued a death wish on Instagram on Thursday towards Russian President Vladimir Putin. Commenting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Zinchenko wrote, “I hope you die the most painful death, you bastard.” The message is no longer visible. Zinchenko claims Instagram has removed the post and the social media says it is reviewing the situation.

The Manchester City left-back also later shared an image, in which a Facebook user wrote: “If you’re Russian and don’t pronounce it now, you’ll be our enemy forever.” On Tuesday, Zinchenko spoke strongly about the situation in his home country. “I can’t stand by and strive to get my point across. My country is in the picture“, wrote the former PSV player on his Instagram account.

“The country in which I was born and raised. The country whose colors I defend in the international sports arena. The country that we are trying to glorify and develop. A country whose borders must remain intact,” Zinchenko emphasized. “My country belongs to the Ukrainians and no one will ever be able to claim it. We will not give our country away! Glory to Ukraine!”
