According to Jérome Rothen, it is certainly not a foregone conclusion that Kylian Mbappé will walk out of Paris Saint-Germain for free next summer. The former winger of the Parisians reports in conversation with RMC Radio that the relationship between Mbappe and the club has improved to such an extent that ‘the chance of a departure has shrunk from 99 percent to 65 percent’. Mbappe has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, which in turn appears to be largely dependent on Champions League performance.

Mbappe will run out of his contract with PSG in June 2022 and has been allowed to talk with other clubs since January. BILD even reported last month that there is a personal agreement between the French international and Real Madrid. According to The Independent However, PSG would do everything in their power to keep its star player on board. Mbappe would be considering an astronomical weekly salary of around 1.2 million euros: much more than the Spaniards can offer the attacker.

In addition to the financial picture, the atmosphere at PSG Mbappé now seems to be getting better and better. “According to my information, the relationship between player and club has improved a lot,” said Rothen, who is now a football analyst in France. “There was a 99 percent chance that he would leave in August. However, everything has turned so much now that that chance is only 65 percent.” Rothen does make a comment: “I was told that this could turn around at any moment.”

Rothen’s sources know that Mbappe’s final choice strongly depends on the result in the eighth final of the Champions League. The goal-getter scored the only goal of the game in the home game of the diptych with his possible new club Real, giving PSG an excellent starting position for the return in Santiago Bernabéu. Mbappe reportedly wants to base his choice for a new club mainly on the chance of winning trophies. In Paris he already won ten, including three national titles.
