Ferdy Druijf had a wonderful basic debut for Rapid Wien on Thursday evening. The 24-year-old striker, who is rented from AZ, already scored after thirty seconds in the Conference League match that he won against Vitesse (2-1). Druijf appeared in front of the camera afterwards in good spirits ESPN and made his apologies to his wife Demi en passant.

Druijf had his wife dropped off at the Rapid Wien stadium hours early on Thursday evening, so she had to wait a long time for kick-off. “I had passed on the wrong time, so the Uber was already two and a half hours in advance at our apartment,” said Druijf with a laugh. “It’s a half hour drive, so she was there two hours in advance, haha. She texted: ‘What time do you play?’ I passed at a quarter to seven, she says: ‘Yes, I’m here at five already…’ I say: ‘Yes, sorry, miscommunication, haha.”

On the field Druijf made no mistake in the first minute against Vitesse by heading in a good cross from Robert Ljubicic. “A nice start, couldn’t be better,” said the attacker. “It was a very good ball that I could head in at the far post, that was nice. Then you should actually keep going, but we made it difficult for ourselves again. If you end up with ten men, then you know You know that it will be a very tough game. Fortunately, we will still win. It will be difficult in the away game, but we will do everything we can to win there again.”

Reporter Aletha Leidelmeijer thought that Rapid Wien took the victory relatively easily after the break. “Easy, easy… It may seem like that from the stands, but it’s different on the field”, Druijf reacted. “I had two more chances, they actually had to go in. I don’t know whether that second yellow card was heavily penalized with us, but the referee was of course waving yellow cards a lot. We could play it better and create more opportunities , especially in the second half. Persistence is still a thing for us, we have to work on that.”
