Feyenoord has tried unsuccessfully to extend Fredrik Aursnes’ contract after a month and a half. Jim Solbakken, the Norwegian midfielder’s agent, tells in conversation with Football International that Aursnes is in no rush to sign an improved offer. That does not mean that Aursnes plans to leave Feyenoord soon.

The 26-year-old Aursnes was removed by Feyenoord last summer from Molde FK, where he had played for more than five years. In the first weeks of the season, the four-time international of Norway had to make do with a reserve role a few times, but since November Aursnes has been undisputed in the midfield of trainer Arne Slot.

Feyenoord is said to be so satisfied with the midfielder that after a month and a half an attempt has been made to break open his contract, which runs until mid-2024. “But Fredrik said: ‘I just got here, I still have almost three years to go, why the rush? ‘” says Solbakken. Aursnes has played 29 official games for Feyenoord for the time being.

“I know Fredrik, it makes no sense to keep asking,” says Aursnes’ agent. “When the time is right and he’s still having a good time, he’ll just sign. But what I do know is that he is incredibly ambitious. “I want to win the league here,” he said. In addition, the club is still active in Europe and with Molde he has seen how far you can go with a good team. That’s what he wants: to win prizes. With Feyenoord.”
