Orkun Kökcü can provide Feyenoord with a hefty transfer fee in the future, Ali Boussaboun believes. The former professional footballer of Feyenoord, ADO Den Haag and NAC Breda, among others, enjoyed the 21-year-old midfielder’s game in Sunday’s city derby against Sparta 4-0. Boussaboun especially praises Kökcü for the energy he manages to put into matches.

According to Boussaboun, Kökçü could make a nice transfer next summer because of his strong game at Feyenoord. The attacking midfielder has already scored 6 goals and 4 assists in 21 Eredivisie matches this season. Last Sunday he opened the score in the city derby against Sparta Rotterdam (4-0) and afterwards he was added to the team ESPN voted Man of the Match. “Kökçü also looks good internationally”, says Boussaboun at RTV Rijnmond† “Perhaps not at the absolute top, but certainly at the sub-top. Clubs like Arsenal.”

“Kökcü may be worth fifty or sixty million in the future,” said Boussaboun. “He has so much energy now, you also see him sprinting back meters when losing the ball. He’s finally got the fitness he needs and that’s a compliment to the staff too. Because they are responsible for that plan. If you are eighteen years old, you play in Feyenoord 1 and you train several times a week, you think this is enough. Stefan de Vrij was also a bit older when he decided to invest more in himself.”

Ibrahim Afellay was in the program on Sunday Studio Football of the NOS also praise Kökçü. “He is quite complete: he can shift the game, but also something creative in the small space by creating something with an action,” says Afellay. “Now he is going to determine whether he can hold on to this, because then he can take steps. This boy has potential. The only thing is that he occasionally plays himself out of the game, by suffering sloppy ball loss. If he takes that out of his game, he really has a lot of transfer value for Feyenoord. They now have capital on the pitch, guys who represent transfer value. That was a while ago too.”
