A major setback for Eljero Elia and ADO Den Haag. The 34-year-old wing attacker tore his ankle ligaments against De Graafschap (0-0) on Sunday and must therefore undergo surgery in the short term. Elia will no longer be in action this season due to the intervention, it assures Football International. The veteran has a contract in The Hague until next summer.
Elia tore his ankle ligaments halfway through the first half of the scoreless encounter with De Graafschap at home. He was carried off the field on a stretcher, so that ADO soon feared that the winger would be absent for months. Elijah came down unlucky after a personal duel and it became immediately clear that the damage would be considerable. As it turns out, he faces a long recovery period.

It remains to be seen whether Elia will return to the ADO shirt due to the injury and the expiring contract. In November he had just started the adventure with the club that he had already served between 2004 and 2007, in the early years of his career. In December, Elia was accurate for the first time on behalf of ADO in the 4-1 won cup match against VV Gemert. Since his return to The Hag, the former the Dutch international has made eleven appearances.
