Jorrit Hendrix has waived a possible transfer to Major League Soccer at the last minute, reports Sports Express. The Russian sports newspaper writes that Spartak Moscow had reached an agreement with an unnamed club from the American competition, but that the midfielder subsequently pulled the plug on the transfer. For Hendrix, who mainly has to make do with substitutes at Spartak this season, there seems to be no future at the club.

According to the Russian sports newspaper, a switch to the MLS beckoned for Hendrix after an agreement with an unnamed club about a transfer fee of eight tons, but the midfielder himself canceled the transfer at the last minute. Hendrix made the switch from PSV to Spartak in January last year, but the switch to Russia has not yet turned out to be a success. Under Domenico Tedesco, Rui Vitória, as well as current trainer Paoli Vanoli, he failed to secure a starting spot.

At Spartak, Hendrix has competition from Roman Zobnin, Nail Umyarov and Ruslan Litvinov, among others. He will drop even further down the pecking order in the coming days, as the Russian club have reached an agreement with Krylya Sovetov Samara on a transfer Danil Prutsev, who, like Hendrix, comes into his own as a controlling midfielder.

Hendrix still has a contract with Spartak until mid-2024. Given the limited prospects for the current number nine in Russia, it seems unlikely that he will live out his contract. The single international of the Dutch national team has also been linked to clubs such as Antalyspor and Khimki in recent weeks, but seems to be finishing the season at Spartak for the time being. Also under Vanoli he mainly has to make do with substitutions. During the first half of the season, Hendrix played 389 minutes in 11 matches.
