Nicky Hofs will immediately become part of the technical staff of Vitesse, the Arnhem team announced. The former midfielder, currently trainer of the Under 21, fills in the place of Dick Schreuder who left for PEC Zwolle and becomes the new assistant coach of Thomas Letsch. It is not the first time that Hofs has started working as an assistant at the first of Vitesse. He previously did that for three years under Henk Fraser, Edward Sturing and Leonid Slutsky.

Vitesse was looking for a new assistant coach, after Schreuder was appointed head coach at PEC Zwolle in November. It is not very surprising that the Arnhemmers ended up at Hofs in that search. The former midfielder also held that role between 2017 and 2019 under Fraser, Sturing and Slutsky. Hofs came in his active playing career to 194 matches and 39 goals on behalf of Vitesse. Then he entered the coaching profession. Hofs was trainer of the Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 and then, after three seasons with the first, came to stand for the group at the Under 21. There he was working on his second season.

“The club was looking for an assistant coach and it is a compliment that they have come to me again. And if I can help the club, I’m happy to do it,” Hofs says about his return to the technical staff. “My first period as an assistant with the first team was excellent. I hope that my insights and approach towards the players will once again be of value to both the staff and the team. In that regard, it is an advantage for everyone that I already know a large part of the current group of players.”

Hofs will join the A-selection next week and will serve as an assistant until the end of the season. It is not yet clear about the interpretation of the technical staff of the Under 21. For the time being, the honors will be taken over by assistant Tim Cornelisse. Theo Janssen, who is now active at the club as a talent coach, is also mentioned. Vitesse will resume the Eredivisie on Saturday evening with an away game against Feyenoord.
