Axel Tuanzebe continues the season on a rental basis at Napoli, Fabrizio Romano reports. The 24-year-old was transferred to Aston Villa by Manchester United this football season, but was unable to play a significant role there. Tuanzebe is on a contract with United until mid-2023.

Napoli pays a rent of 600,000 euros plus the same amount in possible bonuses to have Tuanzebe available for six months. The mandekker broke through from the youth academy at Manchester United in 2017, but never managed to become a permanent fixture at Old Trafford. In total, he is on 37 official games in United’s first.

The Red Devils rented Tuanzebe a total of three times to Aston Villa. In the 2018/19 season, the Englishman was a fixture in the team of the Villans that promoted to the Premier League. This season, the defender tried again at Villa Park and was once again a starting player. That soon changed, however, and Tuanzebe barely got a job in recent weeks. Villa therefore agreed to cancel the rental period.

Napoli were in dire need of defensive reinforcements after Konstantinos Manolas was recently sold to Olympiacos for €2.5million. Furthermore, Kalidou Koulibaly, normally the leader of the rearguard, is currently active with Senegal in the Africa Cup.
