PSV will continue longer with Richard Ledezma, the club reports through its official channels. The 21-year-old midfielder’s contract expired next summer and will now be extended until mid-2024. Ledezma thus closes a wonderful month of December in style: the American made his comeback at the beginning of this month after 363 days of injury.

Ledezma came over from the Real Salt Lake youth academy in early 2019. He made his debut for Jong PSV in August 2019 and has since played 35 official games for the U23 team, scoring 6 times and providing 5 assists. Ledezma made his appearance in the first team in November 2020 against ADO Den Haag (4-0 win). The attacking midfielder was allowed to come in more and more often, but in his sixth game, on December 10, 2020 against Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League (4-0 win), he seriously injured his right knee.

Ledezma tore his anterior cruciate ligament and had to put a line through the rest of the season. This month, on December 6, he made his comeback on the field after 363 days: Ledezma came in for Jong PSV against De Graafschap (2-3 defeat). Last Wednesday, Roger Schmidt had the youngster come in eight minutes before time during the PSV cup match against Fortuna Sittard (2-0), which means that the counter now stands at seven official matches for the first team.

“This feels great after last season,” Ledezma reacts to the extension of his contract. “I am very happy to be part of the team again and I am really looking forward to developing myself. I realize that I have to be patient and I am proud to be here again. I can not describe in words how excited I am . I enjoy every moment of being a footballer.”
