Denzel Dumfries helped Internazionale to a victory on Wednesday evening. The right back, who has been on steam in recent weeks, signed against Torino for the only goal in the game: 1-0. Dumfries can now provide special statistics in Serie A: the former PSV player has scored no fewer than three times in the last four competition matches. Furthermore, AS Roma lost important points due to a late equalizer by Sampdoria (1-1).

Inter Milan – Torino
Without showing great football, Inter, with also Stefan de Vrij in the base, controlled the match from the start signal. A volley from the edge of Alessandro Bastoni’s penalty area was turned over, but after half an hour the spell was broken by Denzel Dumfries. Eden Dzeko’s low pass was missed by Ivan Perisic and ended up on the sixteenth at the emerging right back, who hit the ball with the inside of the foot: 1-0. Later in the first half, Lautaro Martínez missed one-on-one with Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic after a good pass from Hakan Çalhanoglu.

After the break it was a lot less convincing what Inter showed. There were no chances for the home team and Samir Handanovic had to tap a free kick from Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic from the corner. Substitute Alexis Sánchez hit the post on behalf of Inter two minutes before the end, leaving it at 1-0. It is the seventh win in a row for the Milanese, who are now well ahead in Serie A. The lead over number two Napoli, which does have a duel due, is seven points.

AS Roma – Sampdoria 1-1
The teams of José Mourinho and Roberto D’Aversa were not inferior to each other in the first 45 minutes. The home side’s best opportunities, with Rick Karsdorp in the starting line-up, were for Tammy Abraham and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone didn’t have to make an excessive effort. AS Roma got off to a good start in the second half as Antonio Candreva got to the ball before Chris Smalling and his effort eventually ended up out of Rui Patricio’s reach on the aluminum.

It was Eldor Shomurodov who broke the spell after 72 minutes, a few minutes after his substitution: the attacker’s first two attempts in the penalty area were blocked, but the third attempt ended low in the left corner. The Roman joy was short-lived: Omar Colley’s effort from close range in the chaos after a corner ended at the left post, but Manolo Gabbiadini managed to get the ball in. In the remaining ten minutes of play, the teams kept each other even. As a result, Roma lose fifth place this round to Juventus and José Mourinho’s team spends the turn of the year in sixth place.
